Overview
As Head of Construction, you will lead the delivery of renewable energy infrastructure projects across onshore wind, solar PV, and battery storage technologies. This role is responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, while maintaining compliance with OnPath Energy’s Health, Safety and Wellbeing Framework and other corporate commitments.
In this role, you’ll foster a culture of accountability, drive proactive risk management, and lead continual improvement to deliver safe, sustainable, and excellent performance at every level. You will ensure our construction programme is more than just a programme – positioning it as a driver of innovation, resilience, and competitive advantage, enabling the safe, secure, and responsible growth of our renewable energy portfolio.
Key responsibilities
Health, safety & compliance
- Collaborating with the Head of HSSE you will ensure compliance with OnPath Energy’s HSSE Framework during the construction phase of all projects.
- Acting as the Client, oversee all construction activities, with particular focus on contractor-led delivery environments, and ensure all obligations are met pertaining to the CDM Regulations 2015.
- Ensure all contractors and suppliers comply with the relevant standards and project-specific obligations, including planning conditions and community engagement frameworks.
Contract management & procurement
- Working alongside our procurement team, lead the tendering, negotiation, and execution of major construction contracts including:
- Turbine Supply Agreements
- Balance of Plant Agreements
- Solar Panel Supply Agreements
- Battery Storage Supply Agreements
- EPC and Owner’s Engineer contracts
- Ensure contracts are structured to support project finance requirements and mitigate delivery risks.
Project delivery & oversight
- Lead the end-to-end construction delivery of renewable energy projects across multiple sites in the UK.
- Ensure construction budgets and timelines are accurate and include appropriate contingencies.
- Oversee dispute resolution with suppliers regarding delays, cost overruns, and performance issues.
- Drive construction progress and provide feedback to development and operations teams.
Strategic leadership
- Act as the company’s competent source of construction and project delivery, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and best practice standards.
- Develop and execute a forward-looking construction strategy aligned with OnPath’s business objectives.
- Lead and manage the Construction team, ensuring appropriate staffing, training, and development.
- Set SMART objectives for team members and ensure alignment with business goals.
- Ensure the correct level of internal and external resources are in place to support project delivery.
Stakeholder engagement
- Represent OnPath Energy at industry forums, regulatory meetings, and political engagements.
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers, consultants, and other stakeholders.
- Promote best practices and standardisation across construction activities (e.g., FIDIC frameworks).
Qualifications, knowledge & experience
Essential
- Proven experience in a senior construction leadership role (10+ years) within the renewable energy sector.
- Demonstrated success in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of UK construction law, CDM regulations, and industry best practices.
- Demonstrable experience in managing complex budgets, schedules, and risk profiles.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to negotiate with suppliers and contractors.
Desirable
- Degree in a construction-related discipline (e.g., Civil Engineering, Construction Management).
- Chartered or professionally qualified (e.g., MICE).
- Experience managing contracts and commercial aspects of construction projects.
- Expertise in construction claims management and dispute resolution.
- Proven track record of delivering projects valued at £100m+.

Working environment
This role requires regular travel between OnPath’s offices in Houghton-le-Spring and Glasgow, as well as project sites across the UK.
