OnPath Energy: Together to a greener future

OnPath Energy is a leading UK land-based renewable energy developer with a growing portfolio of onshore wind, solar and energy storage projects across the country.  Formerly known as Banks Renewables, we provide green energy solutions for thousands of UK households, businesses and communities.

Why OnPath

We believe in a just transition to net zero that is fair and inclusive for everyone. As a values-based business, we place people, communities and planet at the heart of everything we do. We make long-term commitments to ensure the communities surrounding our projects benefit socially, economically and environmentally from their presence.

We build long-term partnerships with local businesses and landowners to help boost local economies. And we create nature-positive solutions that improve habitats and biodiversity, harnessing the power of nature to help tackle climate change.

Our portfolio and innovation

We can tackle the whole picture of the land-based energy transition, including generation, flexibility, storage and heat. Our team delivers inclusive net-zero projects, combining large-scale renewables with master planning developments.

Our innovation has successfully brought renewable technology to market commercially with industry-leading planning success rates and collaborative, impactful work with communities and partners around our projects.

Leading by example, we offer a unique big-picture solution to the challenges facing society on our journey to net zero.

Our strong history

Previously known as Banks Renewables, the OnPath team has been working sustainably since 1976 as part of the Banks Group. We have decades of experience in bringing forward developments which meet the needs of society and create shared value for our communities, the environment, our business partners and colleagues.

We started planning our first wind farm in 2006. It became operational in 2009, and since then we’ve opened 10 more wind farms, with more in development. In 2024, we will start work developing our first solar farm.

In 2023, Banks Renewables was acquired by the Brookfield Global Transition Fund in a transaction announced in October 2023 and completed in December 2023. We now operate under a new name, OnPath Energy. OnPath Energy is led by the same team building on our trusted position in the UK’s onshore renewable energy market with the ambition to become the leading land based renewable energy developer. Our headquarters are located in Houghton-le-Spring, Sunderland with an office in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire.

Our bold ambitions for the future

We aim to grow in a way that makes a positive contribution to society, for our people, business partners, the environment and the communities in which we work.

We recognise that an enduring opportunity exists for land-based renewables development in the UK and we are committed to expanding the OnPath renewables platform to maximise this opportunity.

Over the next five years, we aim to increase our ongoing annual revenue by over 90% whilst simultaneously increasing the value of our operational portfolio through the delivery of world-class, sustainable renewables developments.

Creating value

Together to a greener future

To create value for our stakeholders, society and the environment, our core focus will be to grow our pipeline of high-quality onshore renewables projects whilst delivering the existing pipeline on schedule and to the highest standards. This includes working with our key existing technologies such as wind as well as developing new business models with technologies we are yet to deploy.

We will continue site finding for solar sites that can add value to our portfolio and will expand into the long-duration storage and hydrogen markets if the conditions are right.

We aim to add over 1.6 GW of new wind projects to the pipeline, as well as 600 MW of new solar projects over the next five years.
