Climate and nature positive
After hearing from local people and other community partners it was important to shape our proposals in a way that protects the environment whilst connecting communities, supporting active travel and improving access to nature.

New and enhanced pathways
Our masterplan will introduce over 15km of pathways for walkers, cyclists and other users complete with new information boards and seating.
The new paths which are made up of 12km of nature & heritage trails and 3km of woodland will help encourage active travel and boost health and wellbeing whilst improving connectivity and access to the outdoors, not only by linking onsite routes but further afield to South Lanarkshire too.
Protecting nature
We are committed to protecting the nature on all of our sites. As part of our masterplan we will enhance and strengthen important habitats, tackling nature loss and giving plants and animals the opportunity to thrive.

Enhancing heathland
We will regenerate 52 hectares of this iconic habitat across the site, helping to protect local animals and insects who rely on this important natural setting for survival.

Peat restoration
Peatland is an incredibly important habitat that is capable of storing hundreds of tons of carbon that would otherwise harm the planet. We will enhance and protect over 53 hectares of peatland onsite, tackling nature loss and climate change together.

Strengthening woodland
We’ll strengthen around 31 hectares of existing woodland, providing a safe space for local wildlife to flourish.

Nature protection in practice
We’ve restored hundreds of acres of peat bogs around our wind farms to help absorb more CO2 from the atmosphere.
At our Middle Muir Wind Farm site, we partnered with local business and leading habitat restorers, Drumclog Plant Ltd to revitalise the peat bog on site, securing its future for years to come.
Watch our video with OnPath’s senior development planner, Rachael and director of Drumclog Plant, Ewan to find out the importance of putting nature first when it comes to development and the benefits of using local businesses to help.

An outdoor classroom & community hub
We propose the creation of a space for outdoor learning in partnership with local schools, providing space for children & young people to learn practical skills while out in nature, as well as a new community space where local people can connect whilst enjoying the outdoors.
