Community benefits

  • Pond’s proposed community benefit package has been developed throughout our consultation in 2023, taking in a wide range of feedback.
  • Our proposals include a £20,000 annual fund to be delivered by a local panel, as well as tailored support for residents and the local authority to support sustainable transport.
  • The OnPath promise to local businesses means that wherever possible, we prioritise local firms when contracting for work onsite. For the Pond Flexible Energy Park, this will include civil engineering, groundworks, electrical works and construction opportunities.
  • This will deliver an estimated £1.6 million in annual wages over the construction period
  • An estimated £130 million total capital investment during the project.
  • Annual business rates of around £950,000 to be paid to the local authority to help deliver local public services.

Environmental benefits

At OnPath Energy, we create positive benefits for the landscape, the nature, and wildlife surrounding our projects. We work closely with communities to identify their environmental needs and with environmental specialists to help enhance existing habitats and boost the resilience of our natural ecosystems.  

The Pond Flexible Energy Park will deliver the following benefits:

  • 360,000 tonnes CO2e saved in the first year of operations compared to an equivalent gas terminal producing electricity
  • That’s the equivalent of taking more than 15,000 petrol cars off the road
  • Our proposal will protect and enhance existing biodiversity at the site
  • The site is well-screened from local houses so will not cause any negative visual impact
  • The site will be built on existing industrial land meaning no green land will be used to host the project
  • Infrastructure such as roads already exist at the site so development will be minimal
