Project plan
Find out how our proposals will deliver not only environmental benefits but build economic and social community value.

Why an onshore wind farm?
Onshore wind is one of the fastest growing and cheapest forms of energy in the world. It is an essential part of the UK’s clean power 2030 strategy and the Scottish Government’s climate and energy targets. The process of converting wind to electricity does not directly emit harmful greenhouse gasses in the way that traditional electricity generation from burning fossil fuels does. And since it’s readily available domestically, it can help to improve long-term UK energy security, lower consumer bills in the long term as well as deliver significant social and economic benefits for local communities.

An energy transition
Why this site?
The site has strong wind potential, good road
access, and a viable grid connection. It is not
within a protected area for landscape, wildlife,
habitats, or cultural heritage.
While wind farms have been proposed nearby
in the past, this specific site has not been
developed. The primary development area does
not overlap with previous proposals, and no
turbines are located on former sites.
Restored opencast land now offers new
opportunities for turbine placement, with
proposed turbines positioned slightly further
north and east—away from main settlements.
Previous proposals, such as High Cumnock and
Garleffan, were generally well supported by the
local community for the benefits they offered.
Playing our part in a net zero future for all
OnPath Energy: our history
We are OnPath Energy, one of the UK’s leading renewable energy developers with a portfolio of onshore wind, solar and energy storage projects across the UK. Formerly known as Banks Renewables, our team has worked in East Ayrshire for over 15 years. We are currently building Lethans and Lethans Ext. to the east of this proposed site.
Our projects in East Ayrshire alone will generate enough clean electricity to power 172,000 homes annually when operational.
We are spearheading more than 18 wind, solar and energy storage projects across England and Scotland.

Timeline
OnPath Together to a greener future
Here’s an overview of the proposed project timeline, all dates dependent on grid connection offer.
April 2025 complete
Consultation round one: Three face to face events in the would be three hosting Community Council areas of New Cumnock, Netherthird, Lugar, Logan, and Cronberry. This is an important part of our OnPath Together development approach to find out what is important to local people.
May 2025 progress
Review scoping response received from East Ayrshire Council.
Summer 2025
Refine site design taking into account baseline surveys, discussions with stakeholders, consultees and community feedback .
Autumn 2025: Production of planning application
Production of planning applications and associated environmental impact assessment (EIA) which will assess the impact of the proposed development on a wide range of factors including but not limited to landscape and visual impact, noise, ecology and ornithology, cultural heritage, traffic and transportation.
Autumn 2025: Ongoing community consultation
Consultation round two: integrating community feedback into our proposals prior to final submission.
December 2025
Target date to submit planning application to East Ayrshire Council.
2030: Start of construction*
*Estimated date for the start of construction, dependent upon successful planning application.
2031: Operational wind farm*
*Wind farm becomes operational dependent upon successful planning application.
